Bridges

Dental bridges replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring a custom prosthetic to your natural teeth, restoring your smile, bite, and confidence.

What Are Dental Bridges?

A dental bridge is a time-tested solution for replacing missing teeth. If you've lost one or more teeth due to decay, injury, or gum disease, a bridge can fill that gap and restore both function and appearance.

The bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth (called pontics) held in place by dental crowns on either side. These crowns are bonded to your natural teeth or implants, creating a stable, permanent restoration that looks and feels natural.

Why Replace Missing Teeth?

Even a single missing tooth can affect your oral health. The surrounding teeth may shift into the empty space, changing your bite and making it harder to chew or speak clearly. Over time, bone loss can occur in the jaw where the tooth is missing.

A bridge prevents these problems by maintaining the structure of your mouth and distributing bite forces evenly across your teeth.

Types of Bridges We Offer

At Union Family Dental, we customize every bridge to fit your unique needs. The most common type is a traditional bridge, anchored by crowns on the teeth adjacent to the gap. We also offer cantilever bridges when only one neighboring tooth is available, and implant-supported bridges for patients who want the most stable, long-lasting option.

During your consultation, we'll discuss which type is best for your situation, your budget, and your long-term goals.

What to Expect

Getting a bridge typically requires two visits. At the first appointment, we prepare the anchor teeth by reshaping them to accommodate the crowns. We take precise impressions and place a temporary bridge while your custom restoration is crafted in a dental lab.

At your second visit, we remove the temporary bridge and fit your permanent one, making any necessary adjustments to ensure a comfortable, natural bite. With proper care, your bridge can last many years.

Caring for Your Bridge

Bridges are durable, but they do require good oral hygiene. Brush twice a day, floss daily using a floss threader or interdental brush to clean under the bridge, and visit us regularly for checkups and cleanings.

We'll show you the best techniques to keep your bridge and surrounding teeth healthy for the long haul.

Common questions
How long do dental bridges last?+

With good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, a well-made bridge can last 10 to 15 years or longer. Brushing, flossing under the bridge, and avoiding hard foods will help extend its life.

Will my bridge look natural?+

Yes. We custom-craft every bridge to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth, so it blends seamlessly with your smile.

Is getting a bridge painful?+

No. We use local anesthesia during the preparation appointment, so you should feel no pain. Some mild sensitivity after the procedure is normal and typically fades within a few days.
